Terms and Conditions (Terms of Use) for CQ-i Online Assessment Platform

Hello. We’re glad you’re here. These Terms explain how you can use the CQ-i Online Assessment Platform—whether you’re exploring your own conscious experience, participating in a study, or conducting research. Please read them carefully.

1. What is the CQ-i?
The Consciousness Quotient (CQ) is a psychological construct that encompasses traits, skills, and abilities enabling individuals to explore and optimize their conscious experience. The Consciousness Quotient Inventory (CQ-i) is an in-depth assessment that evaluates the frequency of behaviors, attitudes, and attentional styles, as well as the use of conscious skills, awareness, and the sense of being “awake and alive.” It offers a comprehensive exploration of conscious experience across 15 distinct patterns, measured as independent scales. The conscious experience components mapped by the CQ-i are Perspective-taking, Clarity of discrimination, Quality of experience, Spirituality-harmony, Global self-identity, Language use, Physical self, Energy self, Cognition self, Non-conceptual self, Social-relational interconnectivity, Inner growth, Multi-modal integration, Habitual patterns, Awakening skills.

2. Taking the CQ-i Assessment
You can take the CQ-i without creating an account.
Just visit the CQ-i online assessment page at https://www.consciousness-quotient.com/online-assessment/, complete the questions, and get your results right away.
After completing the test please allow 1-2 minutes for your report to be generated. Once ready, a download button will automatically appear in your browser. Additionally, a download link will be sent to the email address you provided. Delivery may take up to one hour—please check your spam or junk folder if you don’t see it in your inbox. If you don’t receive the report or the email with the download link, please contact us.

If you’re on a personal growth journey—exploring different ways to develop yourself—we recommend retaking the assessment periodically, but no sooner than 6 to 8 months after your last one. This allows you to meaningfully track how your awareness and conscious skills have progressed over time. When you retest, please use your Test ID (located on the cover of your original PDF report) to ensure accurate comparison with your previous results.

3. Using CQ-i for Research
If you’re a researcher, educator, or trainer, you can use the CQ-i in your work. Simply create a research account (https://cqi.consciousness-quotient.com/register), login, and submit a license request using the interface.
Once your research is approved, you become a research coordinator, and you can:
– Invite participants
– Manage assessment status
– Upload paper-based data
– Export study datasets
All research must follow ethical guidelines, including informed consent and data protection. Account access is subject to approval by the Consciousness Quotient Institute.

4. Privacy Policy
We are committed to protecting your personal data. We collect only essential information—including your name, email, country, age, sex, education level, and responses—to generate your CQ-i report and maintain updated normative scores for accurate assessment results.
Your data is:
– NOT shared with third parties;
– Stored securely;
– Retained for up to 10 years or more to facilitate longitudinal tracking, unless deletion is requested.
We retain data for this period to support individuals who periodically retake the CQ-i assessment to track their development over time. This allows for accurate progress tracking while maintaining data privacy and security. You may request immediate deletion at any time, which will remove your data from our active servers and backup systems within 60 days.
Anonymized datasets, containing only de-identified (anonymized) assessment responses, may be used in published research and comply with open-data requirements of academic journals. No personal information such as names, email addresses, or other identifiers is ever included in these datasets.
The legal basis for processing your data is your explicit consent upon taking the assessment and/or the necessity to perform the contract (generating your report).

5. Your Data Rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, as well as to data portability and withdrawal of consent. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us—we will respond promptly and in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

6. Data Security
Your data is stored on a private server located in an EU data center operated by Hostico, an EU-based hosting provider. We have a Data Processing Agreement in place with Hostico under Article 28 GDPR. All information—including personal data, socio-demographic profile, and assessment responses—is stored securely. The infrastructure meets EU data residency and security standards.

7. Cookies
We do not use cookies.

8. Accessibility
We aim to make the CQ-i platform accessible to everyone. If you experience any issues, please let us know—we’re committed to improving.

9. Your Researcher Account
You can delete your account and request full data removal at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that misuse the platform or violate these Terms, without prior notice or refund. New accounts with no research and no communication with us after account creation may be deleted due to inactivity, after three months.

10. Research Coordinator Responsibilities for Data Handling and Privacy
Research coordinators are solely responsible, ethically and legally, for the protection and handling of participant data. They must comply with all applicable data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR), ensure data confidentiality, implement appropriate technical and organizational safeguards, and use data only for approved research purposes.
The Consciousness Quotient Institute cannot be held accountable for any unintended or inappropriate handling of personal data by research coordinators. Research coordinators must act in full compliance with legal and ethical standards at all times—they are required to uphold participant privacy and data security throughout the entire research lifecycle. Research coordinators agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Consciousness Quotient Institute against any claims, losses, or damages arising from their misuse of participant data or failure to comply with ethical/legal standards.

12. Validity and Reliability
The CQ-i was developed through 18 studies across 17 years (2003–2020). The scores provide standardized ratings using the already familiar style of the Intelligence Quotient and Emotional Quotient (mean = 100). In accordance with the international standards for psychological testing, the CQ-i is classified as a Level B test. When used for research purposes, the CQ-i is intended for use by individuals with a degree in psychology or related fields, or under the supervision of such professionals.
